FileZilla: FTP 'Failed to retrieve directory listing'

New versions of Filezilla have default settings and features that often cause problems when connecting to your FTP site. If you experience an issue with Filezilla please try the settings outlined below.

First temporarily disable any firewalls on your computer and then try the connection. If the connection still has issues try the settings below.

Open Filezilla
Go to Edit - Settings
Click on Connection - FTP: Choose Active
Click on Connection - FTP - Active Mode: Select - Ask your operating system for the external IP address
Click on Connection - FTP - Passive Mode: Choose Fall Back to Active Mode
Press OK.

Try connecting to your FTP site once again.

If you are still having an issue open FileZilla and go to Site Manager, under the General tab set Only use plain FTP (insecure) for the Encryption.
